Citizen engagement workshop
Accelerating the energy transition in municipalities with citizen participation

This workshop focused on the power of citizen engagement in renewables and highlight the importance of regional value creation as a key argument for citizen acceptance. Participants explored strategies to enhance public participation in the regional development of renewables as proven in three countries, each with different cultural, social, regulatory and legal frameworks. Energy communities workshop
The potential of energy communities in a free European electricity market

Energy communities and energy cooperatives embody citizen and community ownership of energy in the urgent transformation towards 100% renewable energy. In this workshop, we discussed how municipalities can become part of energy communities or even set up their own. Participants also took a look at ways to project the effect of various measures on household energy demand. More details can be found in the workshop programme.

Joint working group on adaptation and financing

This joint session of on the Working Groups on Adaptation and Financing looked at how cities can finance their ambitions to adapt to a changing climate. Good practices showcased how Climate Alliance members have tackled this challenge in cooperation with their local stakeholders. Participants exchanged on underlying barriers and replicable solutions to maintain liveable cities and to speed up the just resilience transition. Further information can be found in the agenda.

WG CO₂ monitoring
Working group on CO₂ monitoring

The Working Group on CO₂ Monitoring has a long history in Climate Alliance and is now taking on new challenges. This meeting focussed on the group's work to develop a European CO₂ pricing concept that will allow for a CO₂ price to be included in municipal tendering processes for the procurement of goods and services. The approach has the potential to make municipal administrations vastly more sustainable. More information can be found in the workshop programme.

WG buildings
Working group on buildings

This edition of Climate Alliance’s Working Group on Buildings focused on making energy performance visible with contributions on energy performance certificates as policy tools for municipalities as well as going above and beyond in terms building energy efficiency and renewables with standards like Passive House and EnerPHit. Members exchanged on the role of building standards, goals and guidelines in harnessing the local potential to transform our building stock. For more information, please see the agenda.

Nature-based solutions workshop
Monitoring and evaluating the impact of nature-based solutions

This workshop oriented urban practitioners and stakeholders in measuring the impact of their nature-based solutions by providing practical examples from Latin America and Europe. The workshop was part of the Cities Talk Nature series that strengthens urban ecosystems restoration in municipalities of European Union and Latin America. Reception and film screening
Reception & Film Screening followed by Discussion

Participants were encouraged to join us at the Sang&Klang, a small concert hall dating back to the end of the 19th century! There, they experienced a sneak preview of a riveting documentary on women in South America who are risking their lives to defend their land and protect our planet. After screening the short version of this documentary, participants were invited to discuss its key themes directly with Erika Gonzalez, one of the film’s makers. The evening was rounded off with snacks, drinks and networking.
