Green infrastructure: the key to sustainable urban development
The aim of this TANDEM seminar is to learn more about the implementation of green infrastructure in Germany and France and to exchange practical experience.
With the increasing frequency of extreme weather events such as periods of heat or heavy rainfall, green infrastructure - whether in the form of urban parks and gardens, green roofs and façades or tree-lined streets - is of crucial importance for sustainable urban development. They fulfil a variety of ecological functions and play a key role in increasing the quality of life in the city. But how can more greenery be realised in the city? What instruments and effective solutions are available to cities to realise this? We would like to examine these questions together in this online seminar.
As an example on the German side, we look at the new design statute "Freiraum und Klima" of the city of Frankfurt am Main. It lays down binding rules for the greening of newly constructed and remodelled buildings and properties. The development process, objectives and content are explained in the online seminar. On the French side, the historic city centre of Besançon was sealed for a long time. In the face of increasingly severe droughts, the greening of squares and schoolyards helps to combat heat islands.
Our speakers are:
- Lara-Maria Mohr, Climate Department, Frankfurt am Main: Design statutes for open space and climate
- Jean Kessedjian, Biodiversity and Green Spaces Department, City of Besançon
The online seminar will take place via Zoom. Simultaneous translation (DE/FR) will be provided.
