Heat action plans: exchange of experience between German and French cities

Heat action plans are becoming increasingly relevant on both sides of the Rhine. In fact, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach announced this year that he wanted to introduce a nationwide heat plan based on the French model. France's national heat plan, in place since 2004, focused primarily on protecting older people. An updated version of the heatwave management plan, presented in early June by Minister of Ecological Change Christophe Béchu, now aims to strengthen adaptation efforts in the face of hot spells across the country.
Municipalities are at the forefront of these problems and are particularly affected by the heat island phenomenon. What options do cities have to implement their own heat action plans ("plans canicule" in French)? What support and challenges are there and which methods have proven to be particularly effective for them? We will discuss these questions together with municipal representatives and experts:

The online seminar will take place via video conference on Zoom with simultaneous translation in French and German. This event is organised by Climate Alliance and Energy Cities. The city networks Climate Alliance and Energy Cities have been working together for almost 10 years in the framework of TANDEM for the Franco-German energy transition.
