Climate Alliance Switzerland launches charter for sustainable nutrition

Together with seven Swiss cities (Basel, Bern, Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, St.Gallen and Zurich), Climate Alliance Switzerland has launched the "Sustainable Food Charter for Swiss Cities and Towns". The aim of the charter is to set a political example and to utilise the opportunities for municipal action for a transformation more towards a sustainable food system.

The charter is also intended to strengthen the exchange of experience and cooperation between participating cities and other relevant stakeholders. Climate Alliance Switzerland expects the resulting synergies to further advance the topic. The charter was the result of an intensive consultation process in which experts from the world of science as well as from municipal administrations were involved.

The charter may now be adopted by all interested Swiss cities and towns; a political decision is sufficient for ratification. Municipalities having adpoted the charter can then join the Charter's circle of supporters in order to exchange experiences and develop local strategies for sustainable food systems.
