Energy Saving Tips: How can cities save energy in the short run?

Time: 10 - 12

The concept of energy sufficiency is spreading all over Europe and it can help local and regional communities reach their climate and energy objectives. Energy sufficiency is firstly a matter of behaviour and consumption: It’s about having enough without using too much. It’s about acting differently and leading a good life within the limits.

The need to improve our consumption behaviours is the central idea around the Save@work project that will be presented at this event. The project has been looking at how we can reduce energy consumption in the office by encouraging staff to make small changes to their everyday workplace behaviours. Moreover, the event is part of the Cities Energy Saving Sprint, a joint initiative of the European Commission, the Covenant of Mayors – Europe and the European Committee of the Regions to support cities in taking measures that will immediately reduce their energy consumption. Saving energy has been an integral part of mid-term and long-term local climate and energy planning. The current energy crisis requires that these efforts be reinforced, while calling for emergency energy saving measures.
